KEY LARGO (CBSMiami / FKNB) – A diving Santa Claus who went into hiding with his elves and “reindeer” at the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary off Key Largo on Monday to give the marine life of the reserve a little vacation fun and entertain divers.
Santa Claus was played by Spencer Slate, the owner of the island chain’s Captain Slate’s Scuba Adventures, who has been wearing the funny man’s clothes for years. His vacation dives offer customers underwater photo opportunities as a fundraiser for local children’s charities.
During his underwater excursion on Pleasure Reef, Slate and a diver in elf costume drove red SeaBob underwater sleds over the reef. They encountered schools of fish and other marine life.
