Iker Casillas “proud to come home” as Real Madrid welcomed the legendary goalkeeper back in the role of general manager at Bernabeu

One of Real Madrid’s favorite sons, Iker Casillas, has returned to the club as assistant to the general manager.
The former goalkeeper, 39, is a true legend who has won an incredible 19 trophies in the Spanish capital in 25 years.
He retired from the game in August after returning after a severe health scare in the form of a heart attack on the training pitch with Porto last May.
Iker Casillas posted this snap on his Instagram page and is proud to have taken on the role
His successes included three Champions League titles with Real – in 2000, 2002 and 2014
Casillas shared a response to the announcement of his appointment on Instagram.
He wrote, “Proud to come home. I am facing this new challenge with all the enthusiasm and desire in the world. Thank you for the welcome. ‘
Real wrote: ‘Iker Casillas is a Real Madrid legend who represents the values of our club and is the best goalkeeper in our history.
‘He has received prestigious awards for both his athletic career and human qualities, including the Prince of Asturias Sports Award, the Grand Cross of the Royal Order for Sporting Merit, the Gold Medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit and the Gold Medal of the Community of Madrid .
Casillas won the European Championship Cup in 2012 when Spain defended their title

Casillas is widely regarded as one of the great goalkeepers in history and has the club and country trophy collection to support this.
He played 167 games for Spain, won the world championship once and the European championship twice.
Casillas is Real Madrid through and through. He played 725 competitive games between 1999 and 2015 and has been with the academy since 1990.
He left the club for Porto in 2015 and won two Portuguese Primeira Liga titles. Then news of a heart attack rocked the world of football in 2019.
Casillas fortunately recovered enough to be able to return to training but failed to play competitively for Porto after the fear and eventually gave up this summer.
