Incomplete records were kept of Paige’s games in the Negro leagues who could not afford to hire the kind of record holders that the major leagues had. The Black Press was comparatively financially stricken and unable to send reporters to many games or publish full dress box scores. The result is that the statistics have been patchy, especially for second division players, although researchers fill in some of those gaps.
