Carnival floats mock Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel in this year’s German parade, which was cut back this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The former US president is portrayed naked as a suckling pig over a fire, while Putin is kicked in the groin by his imprisoned critic Alexei Navalny.
The Carnival Monday parade in Düsseldorf usually attracts thousands of spectators who saw the eagerly awaited floats designed every year by Jacques Tilly, Germany’s leading carnival float designer.
The festival takes place on the Monday before Ash Wednesday, but the mass celebrations have been canceled this year due to the raging virus.
However, that hasn’t stopped Tilly from preparing the satirical floats that traditionally target political figures and current events.
The designs are a mystery until they are revealed and the cars were revealed to the media on Monday without the usual crowd.
The organizers sent eight floats around town – separately rather than in a parade and on routes that were kept secret in advance to prevent crowds from gathering.

Angela Merkel is also represented in the parade, with Armin Laschet, the newly elected CDU leader, disguised as Chancellor.
The 59-year-old is a passionate Merkel loyalist and is considered a continuity candidate ahead of the September elections, in which the Germans will vote for their first new chancellor in 15 years.
Tilly, 56, says his main influences on his designs are classic British comedies like Spitting Image, Monty Python and Little Britain.
He told the German news agency about this year’s event: “It is a small signal that we are still alive.”
