Dead body found while searching for missing students from Texas A&M Galveston, officials say

GALVESTON, Texas– Authorities said they found a body while searching for a missing Texas A&M Galveston student.

The missing student, identified as Cadet Brandon Perlowski, was last seen on Wednesday. When Perlowski did not register for training, the officials began to inquire, according to the authorities.

Officials said a search and rescue team, including the U.S. Coast Guard, was dispatched to campus Thursday to look for the missing student.

“On the same day, Perlowski’s vehicle was found abandoned on the north side of the campus in an area frequented by students,” the university said in an update. “He hasn’t been heard from friends or family since Wednesday night.”

During Thursday’s search, authorities said they discovered the body of another student in one of the dormitories. According to the authorities, the student had called and asked for a social check because he was not feeling well. When someone got to the room, the student was dead, officials said. The Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that the cause of death for the student found in the dormitory was a pre-existing illness. There is no evidence of foul play or suicide.

Officials have not confirmed whether the body is this Perlowski, but it is believed he is.

Authorities said they do not believe the two incidents are linked. Officials have also not yet released the identification or description for the deceased student.

Sophomore Sakari Kankainen said the Sea Aggies community needs to be strong when navigating these emotionally challenging waters.

“I think resilience should top anything right now. It just needs to be strengthened, ”said Kankainen.

For Seth Clark, timing is a mental obstacle because the semester is only a few weeks old.

“It’s so early in the semester and everyone is really trying to get back into the groove of school and that’s definitely a shock,” said Clark. “It’s just a sad statement that they lost their life so early that anyone could have been.”

The death on the A&M Galveston campus comes two days after Texas A&M announced the death of Cadet Ryan Boles at College Station.

Texas A&M Galveston posted a statement on Twitter that they have been informed of the incidents and are working with police to help with the search. The statement also states that counseling services are available to students at 409-740-4736 or in Building 3030, Suite 104.
