The first of two satellites in a billion dollar NASA and European project to accurately measure sea level rise, a major consequence of global warming, flew into orbit from California on Saturday on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
The Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite can track sea level with an accuracy of less than half an inch to help scientists record the ongoing effects of the global by determining how long it takes for cloud-penetrating radar beams 830 miles below the ocean rebounding warming over extended periods of time.
