Wayne Rooney, the soccer player, is now the soccer manager after being hired by Derby County on a permanent basis.
The 35-year-old has signed a two and a half year contract to take over the Rams until the summer of 2023. You are currently in the relegation zone of the championship.
As a direct result of the appointment, Rooney has announced his decision to retire from the game with immediate effect in order to focus solely on the role.

As a precocious 17-year-old at the Everton youth club, Rooney quickly became one of the best club and country players of his generation.
With a high level of expectation, he shone at Euro 2004 – his first international tournament – for England and signed a transfer worth 25 million pounds with Manchester United at the age of 18.
Rooney became United’s all-time scorer, with 253 goals in 559 games in 13 largely successful seasons in which he won five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, three League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.
He scored 53 goals in 120 games for England but was sadly unable to match the Three Lions’ long-awaited success in a tournament.
Rooney only joined Derby a year ago – he had an 18-month contract as player-coach for MLS team DC United.

However, his role changed in November when Phillip Cocu was fired as Derby manager. As a result, Rooney became a caretaker manager.

Rooney said on Friday shortly after his permanent appointment was confirmed, “My whole life has been playing football so I’m happy to be part of it still. It’s a new chapter for me. Will i miss playing? Sure.
“But time doesn’t stop. I’ve had my time, it’s time for the younger generation to have their time and for me to lead them.
‘My future lies in management. I had a great career with a few ups and downs, but I wasn’t going to change anything.

‘I’ve been very lucky to play for some great teams. Come through the academy in Everton and play in the first team. A dream came true.
13 years at Manchester United was the highlight of my career for the trophies I won. I was very grateful for the opportunity and loved every minute.
“Going to the US and coming to Derby County should help the teams to be successful, but it should also give me more experience in different leagues.
“But now I want to make some history in my managerial career.
“I have been preparing and working for this for several years. It is what I wanna do
“I’ve tried it for the past few months and enjoyed it. I’m ready to bring Derby County back into the league. ‘
He added: ‘This football club is huge. This club will always try to grow and achieve great things. For me, it’s a great opportunity to help the club get back to its glory days. ‘
