Believing former club Chelsea to be “real rivals” to win the Premier League and Champions League this season, Joe Cole insisted that Liverpool and the two Manchester clubs could go far in European elite competition as well .
The Blues secured qualification for the knockout round of the Champions League by beating Rennes and are striving for their first success in the competition since 2012, in which a side boss Frank Lampard was involved.
The Lampard men have also gone three seasons without a title and are two points behind leaders Tottenham after spending around £ 220m on signings over the summer.

The arrival of Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva means that Chelsea no longer have “glaring weaknesses”.
Prior to their trip to Seville, however, Cole insists that Stamford Bridge Club could well claim the doubles as Ben Chilwell, Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva have eliminated the “glaring weaknesses” in their side.
‘I think, you [Chelsea] are real competitors, ”said Cole.
“I think all English teams cannot stop any of them from going all the way in the Champions League because of the quality and strength of our league.”
‘I don’t think there are any weaknesses at Chelsea at the moment. I feel like there aren’t any obvious weaknesses, there are areas that need improvement. But if you look at the last two months, certainly since Chilwell, Mendy and Silva got into the last four, the goals conceded have started.

Cole also credited Ben Chilwell for assisting in the defense of Stamford Bridge

“We look safe from set pieces. So those things have improved dramatically from last season. I think there are still areas where Chelsea can improve and they will improve.
‘But of course I have them as a contender to win the Champions League and the [Premier] League this year. But the other teams, your Man City, Liverpool and even United, also have a rich tradition in competition. I think English clubs will do well this year.
‘Bayern Munich I think the favorites are rightfully the champions, but I would put the money on the English sides to get deep into the competition and get at least one of them into the final. I think it’s a good year for us. ‘
Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown agreed with former English teammate Cole, stating that the four English teams are capable of conquering any team on the continent they can succeed.
