Trevor Noah responded to news that Ted Cruz had traveled to Mexico amid a weather crisis in his state of Texas with a biting video highlighting the senator’s criticism of other politicians in the past.
“. @ Tedcruz Welcome back to the US, found this when you were away,” the tweet reads.
The one-minute clip consists of a montage of past interviews in which Cruz criticized other political leaders for taking vacations, playing golf, or otherwise being apart from those they represent.
“It’s crazy we’re taking a break,” Cruz says in one of the archive clips taken from a 2017 Fox News interview conducted when Republican lawmakers were pushing to repeal and replace ObamaCare. “Let’s not cut corners. Let’s work every day. Let’s work on weekends. Let’s work until we get the job done.”
In another Fox News segment, Cruz criticized “President Obama, Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party” for having “so little contact with where the American people are now.”
The video also includes an excerpt from a 2014 interview in which Barack Obama’s Cruz Megyn Kelly said, “He goes golfing with friends hundreds of times. He doesn’t focus on the people who are hurt. “
Cruz received widespread criticism after news broke Thursday of his trip to Mexico. Some called for his resignation.
