Jose Mourinho has accused Gareth Bale of posting a “totally false” social media post about his fitness when tensions were posted on Friday with his struggling loaner star.
When Tottenham traveled to Everton for the FA Cup on Wednesday, Bale, who was dismissed from the squad after complaints of discomfort and instead stayed behind to work with the club’s sports scientists, told his Instagram followers “good session today”.
Mourinho had previously tried as much as possible to resolve internal issues with Bale, who has struggled for fitness and regular playing time since moving from Real Madrid.
But the Portuguese responded to Bale’s message by explaining at length why he was not part of Spurs’ plans for their eventual 5-4 overtime loss at Goodison Park and accusing the player of not telling the truth.
Ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday night, Mourinho said: “I have to admit that his post created a need to be addressed.
‘There was a contradiction between the post office and reality. Since the start of the season I’ve tried to be very private about everything and keep everything inside, but I felt like I had to address the situation.

Despite being banned from the squad, Bale hinted that he was ready to play against Everton

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has publicly accused Bale of failing to tell the truth on his Insta post
‘Probably the post office wasn’t even his responsibility. I dont know? But the post said “Training session is great and I’m ready” and it was completely wrong. When asked, I had to state the reality of things.
“I will repeat it for the last time and hope that there are no further questions about it. The situation was exactly as I told you.
‘He wasn’t feeling well, he asked for a scan. He had a scan, the scan showed no injury, but his feelings were still there and coaches, sports scientists and medical professionals can never go against feelings because the player’s feelings are much more important than any of us.
‘So he wasn’t ready for the game. It’s that simple. If he’s ready for tomorrow, he’s selected for tomorrow. ‘
The Real Madrid loanee has only started the Premier League twice this season and has been an unused substitute in the last two top games after showing no effect under Mourinho.

After the Everton game, Mourinho had said on Bale: ‘Gareth is not on the bench because he was not happy with his training session yesterday.
“I wouldn’t say hurt at all, but some feelings he wasn’t happy with. So it was better for him to stay back and work with the sports scientists.”
Just last week, Bale was again the main talk after Mourinho kept him on the bench in the 1-0 home loss to Chelsea and Spurs’ attack looked toothless.
After the final whistle, Mourinho snapped at a television reporter after she asked him to explain why he hadn’t got Bale to get Spurs to chase a goal.
Mourinho turned to Erik Lamela and Lucas Moura as the home team watched the game, not Bale, who went idle.
