The international duo from England was pictured in a London restaurant on Saturday afternoon. Tier 2 coronavirus logs state, “You must not come into contact with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble, be it at home or in a public place.”
Villa boss Smith is expected to speak to both players after the club was sent footage from a newspaper of its players at the London venue. He is currently believed to be unlikely to be fined.
Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley reportedly broke coronavirus rules in London on Saturday
Villa’s players had the weekend off after the Premier League march against Newcastle last Friday was postponed due to a string of Covid-19 cases in the Magpies’ squad.
It is understood that Grealish and Barkley should have coronavirus tests on Monday morning before the scheduled afternoon training session.
A Villa spokesman said: “After reviewing the footage that was forwarded to us on Saturday, it appears that two of our players who live in Tier 2 areas of the country are visiting a restaurant on Saturday afternoon on a free weekend Eat Tier 2 location. They left the restaurant at 7.45pm. “
