Mesut Ozil “is closer to Fenerbahce than ever” reveals Turkish giants’ sports director Emre Belozoglu as Arsenal outcasts near the exit
- Mesut Ozil revealed his affection for Fenerbahce in Twitter Q&A this week
- Ozil has not yet played for Arsenal this season and is not registered on the squads
- The 32-year-old will be a free agent this summer but could walk that window
Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil could get a chance to play first-team football this season as talks about a transfer to Fenerbahce pick up in January.
The German World Cup winner was frozen by Mikel Arteta for the entire season. The Arsenal boss has made it clear that he is not in his plans. He has not been on Arsenal’s Premier League or Europa League squads this season and has not played for the club since March.
Ozil, who makes £ 350,000 a week with the Gunners and will be a free agent this summer, has been linked to a move to his Turkish youth club Fenerbahce or DC United in Major League Soccer.

Mesut Ozil is wanted by Fenerbahce and sporting director Emre is talking about signing him

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has frozen Ozil out of his first team picture since March
When Fenerbahce sporting director Emerb Belozoglu spoke about her desire to sign the 32-year-old, he noted that negotiations to conclude an agreement between all parties have made progress.
“Mesut Ozil has been one of the special players in the world for his position over the last 20 years,” the former Newcastle midfielder told Turkish media, as quoted by Sky Sports.
‘When this broadcast takes place, it will be a premiere. I see it as a very positive step for both our ward and our president, but I don’t think it will be easy. We have our own plans. And Mesut has a contract with his club.
‘He’s a superstar. We’re talking about a player who contributes to goals in every other game, regardless of which team he plays for. I would be very happy if Fenerbahce can have a player like that, especially when we’re on duty.
‘We had a meeting with him and his agent. It’s moving slowly, but Mesut is closer to Fenerbahce than ever. The fact that Mesut’s childhood dream is still alive and Fenerbahce has such a dream brought this step so close for the first time.
‘After Mesut finishes negotiations with his club, we will have our own negotiations between us. If Mesut can sign a contract with his club on the terms we expected, it won’t be a burden for us financially, considering our limits this year. ‘
Earlier this week, Ozil spoke about his affection for the Istanbul club during a Twitter Q&A.
He teased the fans with the words: “I grew up as a child in Germany as a Fenerbahce fan – every German-Turkish person supports a Turkish team when they grow up in Germany.
‘And mine was Fenerbahce. Fenerbahce is like Real Madrid in Spain. The largest club in the country. ‘
When asked by another Twitter follower about his favorite neighborhood in Istanbul, Ozil ‘Kadikoy’ replied where the club’s stadium is located.
