Wayne Rooney’s son Kai followed in his father’s footsteps and signed for the Manchester United Academy.
United’s record scorer posted a picture on social media of the 11-year-old, the eldest of Rooney’s four sons, who was signing a deal with his father’s former club.
Rooney accompanied the picture with the caption: “Proud day. Kai signs with @manchesterunited. Keep it up, son. ‘

Rooney, 38, now temporarily in charge of Derby, joined United from Everton in 2004.
The former English striker had a brilliant 13-year career at Old Trafford, scoring 253 goals in 559 games and breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s long-standing goal record in January 2017.

During his notable career at Old Trafford, Rooney won five Premier League titles, three league cups, an FA Cup, a Europa League and a Champions League.
Rooney joined Everton youth club in 2017 before joining MLS team DC United before joining Derby.
The former England and United captain is still revered by the United States’ faithful thanks to his incredible service to the club during their glorious years under legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rooney made his Champions League debut for United against Fenerbahce in September 2004 after hitting a £ 27m deal with Everton and immediately settled at Old Trafford.
Rooney scored a hat-trick and assisted when United beat the Turkish team 6-2.
Thirteen years later, during the period of dominance under Ferguson, he went from arguably United’s greatest player.

The 35-year-old will follow his eldest son every step of the way as he begins his new chapter at United.
Meanwhile, Rooney himself is trying to get the derby job permanently after taking over the helm of the championship club, which is threatened with relegation.
The former England captain has been impressed since taking his first steps in management and has led Derby to an unbeaten run of six games during his time on the hotseat.

And after seeing a surge in performance, Rooney has won the support of Derby’s players to become the club’s full-time boss after impressing them.
Until the proposed £ 60million takeover by Sheik Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan – a cousin of Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour – is completed, Derby is unlikely to set a permanent date.
Rooney made no secret of his desire to land, and he’s had a positive impact on the roster since taking office.
