The midfielder released a screamer from the edge of the box after seven minutes
After the game, the United midfielder told BT Sport: “It was a really good goal. You have to be ready when you are on the edge of the box to possibly stop the counterattack.
“This time I felt like I had to shoot, maybe next time I’ll have to foul and get a yellow card.”
Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was at the BT Sports studio to cover the game. The experts Gary Lineker, Owen Hargreaves and Rio Ferdinand agreed that it was a “Scholesy-like blow”.
Scholes admitted that he often took this position on the edge of the box at the corners, while also having time to praise Fernandes’ overall performance.

The 46-year-old said: “I’ve always loved this place, waiting for the ball to come and hoping there would be no defenders and no one would be on the edge of the box. What a first hit and it was a sensational goal.
“He was the one who won it for her early on. He is their most creative player and he will create all the chances, including the bad goals from midfield that all count. ‘
