Former Manchester United midfielder Andrei Kanchelskis reveals that his teammates got him to tell Sir Alex Ferguson it was an appropriate greeting in a prank
- Andrei Kanchelskis joined Manchester United from Shakhtar Donetsk in 1991
- The winger was a fan favorite during his four and a half years at Old Trafford
- He won two Premier Leagues and a European Super Cup with six awards
Andrei Kanchelskis has revealed how he unwittingly told Sir Alex Ferguson to leave, calling him “Scottish” shortly after being signed by the legendary Manchester United manager.
Kanchelskis joined the Red Devils from Shakhtar Donetsk in March 1991 on a deal for £ 650,000.
The Ukrainian-born Russian came from what was then the Soviet Union and spoke little English when he transitioned to the Premier League.

Andrei Kanchelskis (left) says he was once tricked into saying “damn” boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
And his new Old Trafford teammates unwittingly saw it as the perfect opportunity to wreak havoc with a light-hearted prank at his own expense.
In an excerpt from his upcoming autobiography, the 51-year-old stated, “When a foreign soccer player walks into a dressing room, he is taught to swear.
‘I saw exactly the same thing with Brazilian players when I was working in Russia.
‘You also taught me how to properly address the Manchester United manager.
“When I first met Alex Ferguson in the corridors of the cliff, he said to me,“ All right, Andrei, how are you?
‘I smiled at him and replied,’ F *** off, Scottish b ***** d ‘.
“Ferguson stopped and then started smiling as he echoed laughter down the corridor while I stood confused.”
