Neymar set fire to himself again with Alvaro Gonzalez of Marseille on Twitter after PSG win the French Super Cup … but the Brazilian star is mocked by the defender for being “forever in Pele’s shadow”
- Neymar and Alvaro Gonzalez fell out for the first time when PSG played against Marseille last year
- This time the series continued on the pitch after the Champions Trophy on Twitter
- Gonzalez told PSG striker Neymar that he will be in Pele’s shadow forever
PSG versus Marseille is often a fiery game and Wednesday’s final edition marked another chapter in the bitter feud between Neymar and Alvaro Gonzalez.
This time it didn’t stay on the pitch, however, and continued via Twitter in the hours following PSG’s 2-1 win over Marseille in the Champions Trophy. He presented the new manager Mauricio Pochettino with his first cutlery.
Neymar, who scored PSG’s second goal, and Gonzalez have a story that began last September when the Brazilian star was sent off for punching Gonzalez in the back of the head before accusing him of making racist statements. An investigation by the French Federation later erased Gonzalez.

Neymar and Alvaro Gonzalez rekindled their feud on Twitter after the Champions Trophy

Neymar wrote “King, Alvaro born” alongside a celebratory tweet after PSG’s 2-1 win

Marseille’s Gonzalez responded by telling Neymar: “My parents taught me to take out the trash.”
Following Wednesday’s win, Gonzalez responded to a solemn tweet of Neymar’s title, “King, was Alvaro born?” with the words: “My parents always taught me to take out the garbage. Go OM (Olympique Marseille) is always next to a picture where he grabs Neymar’s head while the two fight for the ball in the game.
Neymar hit back immediately saying, “And he forgot to win TITLES” with several crying with laughter.
Gonzalez then hit back again, this time with a taunt comparing Neymar to Brazil’s ultimate legend, Pele.
Next to a picture of Pelé, who held three world championships, Gonzalez wrote: “Eternal shadow of the king”.
Neymar’s answer was, “And you mine, I made you famous. You’re welcome.’
