Two marquette students are faced with a video posted on social media showing how they use racial slurs. The students involved are a sophomore marquette and a freshman marquette who was a member of the university’s lacrosse team. Marquette officials confirmed the student-athlete was removed from the team in response to the video. The Snapchat shows both students repeatedly lying down together with racist slurs after a student asked for a face mask. The video got widespread online before both students deleted all of their social media accounts. WISN 12 blurs students’ faces in our report and doesn’t publish student names. Marquette officials said the university has opened an investigation into student behavior. The university said the results of the investigation would remain confidential for privacy reasons. A Marquette spokesperson sent a statement to WISN 12 News: “As a Catholic Jesuit institution, we are called to build a nurturing, inclusive community in which all people feel safe. Racism and discrimination have no place on our campus. All of our students and especially to our colored students who share a vision for Marquette as an anti-racist institution, we pledge to continue working with you to overcome injustices. “Marquette’s Black Student Union students said this is not the first time they have experienced racism on campus and said the university’s testimony may not be enough. “It was really just a shock. The video doesn’t make any sense. You sit there with a face mask and it’s like you’re saying that? Didn’t you think other people would see this? Didn’t you think it would.” coming to university, “said Kennedy Truevillian, a freshman who was studying nursing at the Marquette. “I feel like you’re proud of where you go to school, but having situations like this is like the place for me? Did I make the right decision? ”“ I would just say that it is so. I don’t think it should be tolerated at all. We want everything to be done, and whoever is involved, “said Brittany Mack, a freshman to Marquette in environmental studies.” We don’t want a page to be turned. We don’t want them to feel comfortable in this situation. We want them to feel as uncomfortable as possible to understand that this is wrong. ”WISN 12 spoke to the sports student’s father, who said he had no comment on the situation.
