Americans will soon find a new vending machine in grocery stores, malls, airports, and subway stations across the country: home testing kits for.
Startup Wellness 4 Humanity has teamed up with medical device manufacturer Spectrum Solutions and software and technology services company Swyft to offer COVID-19 test kits for sale via the contactless convenience of vending machines.
The Home RT-PCT Test Kit is the first saliva test for COVID-19 to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration. An accuracy of 99.99% in diagnosing the coronavirus is stated. The company recently unveiled the first vending machine in New York. Thousands of machines are expected to be introduced across the country over the next six months.
Oakland International became the first airport in the US to offer test kit vending machines, officials said last week. Travelers now have access to the vending machines in both terminals at the airport.
Unlike a Twix bar or bag of potato chips, however, the Saliva RT-PCT test kits must be purchased online first at w4humanity.com. Once a purchase has been made, a QR code is sent to the consumer, which can then be used at a machine to retrieve a kit. The kits cost between $ 119 and $ 149.
“Just place it [the QR code] in front of the machine, “said Pavel Stuchlik, co-founder of Wellness 4 Humanity, and the pre-purchased kit is handed out.
Current waiting times for coronavirus tests can be several hours, especially in large cities like New York, where lines at CityMD and other emergency centers often wrap around the block. In contrast, the vending machine saliva tests remove the inconvenience and risk of standing in line and being in close contact with others, including health professionals.
Similar to the home saliva collection kits used by DNA testing companies like 23andMe and Ancestry.com, the RT-PCR test kits contain a saliva collection device, biohazard bag, return label, and instruction manual. The test consists of filling a plastic tube with saliva, then screwing a special cap onto the tube and shaking the contents.
Users then place the sealed tube in a pouch and send it to a laboratory with a pre-printed shipping label. Once received, it usually takes a day or two for results to be seen.
Test kits may be insured depending on your health insurance plan. They can also be delivered to your home through Wellness 4 Humanity and Amazon.com.
