Bayern Munich have confirmed they have reached a £ 38.5million deal to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.
Bundesliga champions Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s chairman of the board confirmed earlier this month that they are fighting Liverpool and Chelsea to sign the French defender.
However, the German side dealt a heavy blow to the Premier League duo when they confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old French international, who signed a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena ahead of next season.

Bayern Munich has reached an agreement to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig

The 22-year-old Frenchman has signed a five-year contract with the club world champion
“I can confirm that and we are very happy about it at FC Bayern,” said Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic to BILD after they activated the release clause in Upamecano’s contract.
‘We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth for several months.
‘We knew we were facing very tough competition. Upamecano is a young player, 22, whose qualities are already exceptionally developed.
‘I always believed we had a good concept. We presented him with our vision of his career at FC Bayern.

European champion Bavaria had intended it as the main target for David Alaba
“Last week I spoke to everyone involved again. At the end of a long process, the player, his family and his management were convinced that FC Bayern was the right partner for them. ‘
European champion Bavaria had intended the 22-year-old, who missed Leizpig’s victory against Augsburg on Friday evening, as the top goal for the replacement of David Alaba, who is supposed to leave for free.
But both Thomas Tuchel and Jurgen Klopp are in a tough spot and are looking for alternatives this summer as both Chelsea and Liverpool are pushing backwards.
New Chelsea boss Tuchel is reportedly planning a defensive overhaul at Stamford Bridge and Upamecano was one of the moves slated for the next transfer window.
